Cat Food For Cats With Stomatitis & Other Mouth Problems

Are you looking for cat food for sensitive tooth cats? I can confidently speak from experience when feeding a cat with dental problems. My cat Mac was diagnosed with stomatitis. He only has his four fangs for protection and as a result, finding the right cat food that he not only eats but also enjoys has been quite challenging. That’s why I’m here to share suggestions for cat food that my cat Mac enjoys, and I’m confident that your cat will too. Find your cat food for sensitive teeth cats below!

Important Cat Food Qualities

  • Soft Food: Allows your cat to eat without discomfort.
  • Hard Food: Make sure you add a small amount of liquid to your dry cat food as cats with stomatitis flair-ups will have trouble chewing, especially if they have had surgery that removed their teeth already.

I’m making an update to this page. I used to recommend Friskies dry kibble but after about 8 months my cat choked on the food slightly. I cannot have even the slightest chance that my cat can be injured so I have found another alternative below. I do not recommend dry food at all. Because even those pieces when grouped just right in the cats throat can cause choking.

Purina Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers – Variety Pack

This is Mac’s favorite food. He goes bananas for this stuff. If your cat is anything like mine it will rather lose weight than eat bad food. So with much trial and error, we found that the variety pack is best for the first purchase and then from there, you can find out which flavor your cat will and will not eat.

Friskies Extra Gravy

While I don’t recommend Friskies dry kibble anymore, I recommend their gravy chunky mix. Mac will lick his gravy and then eat his chunks. Once the liquid has been consumed, group the leftover food into a pile. This allows your cat to eat more easily. Once again I would choose a variety pack as your first purchase to see what your cat likes.

Disclaimer

If neither of these cat foods works for your cat, I recommend making your own at home. It’s important to be mindful of your cat’s specific dietary needs, as they can’t process fats and seasoning very well. I’ll have a future post where I’ll share an easy Walmart cat food recipe. In the meantime, I highly suggest giving the two cat foods that I recommended a try. Consult your vet for your cat’s specific dietary needs.
